Parishioners of St. Monica, OLA Churches Fete Inmates of Nsawam Prisons

Members of the St. Monica Catholic Church at Adjiringanor and the Our Lady of Apostles Church at Madina West in the Accra Archdiocese on the Feast of Corpus Christi paid a visit to the Nsawam Prisons.

The visit was to interact and help provide comfort to the inmates.

Rev. Fr. Jerome Kofi Aduzoka, the Chaplain of Our Lady of Apostles, said it is the cardinal duty of a Catholic and a Christian to not only love the poor, aid the sick but to visit their neighbour in prison.

He urged the inmates to make efforts to attend catechism classes so that they can fully participate in every church activity.

Using the analogy of St. Anthony of Padua and the donkey and the monstrance, Father Jerome said, the power in the holy communion is beyond the understanding of the ordinary man, hence the need to attend religiously eucharistic celebrations

Various items including devotional books, rosaries, provisions, assorted drinks, football jerseys and tree seedlings from the We-Care nursery were presented to the inmates.

Dr. Lawrence Kofi Acheampong, Medical Superintendent of the Prisons Hospital, who received the items on behalf of the prison authorities, expressed gratitude to the donors, adding that more of such visits are expected from other Catholic Churches and religious groups.

The ecstatic and joyous drumming and singing from the Boborbor group from St. Monica equally brought some smiles and a continuous dance from the inmates as they queued to receive their presents.

After the interaction with the inmates the group also paid a courtesy call on the Assistant Director of Prisons, Patrick Thomas Seidu, the Acting Eastern Regional Commander and Head of Nsawam Prisons.

St. Monica and Our Lady of Apostles are part of the Madina Parish.
