Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Archbishop of Accra Archdiocese celebrates Chrism Mass.
On Wednesday, April 5th 2023, priests, Religious and Lay faithful from around the Archdiocese of Accra gathered at the Holy Spirit Cathedral with the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp to celebrate the annual Chrism Mass.
The Chrism Mass is a special yearly liturgy in the Catholic Church that usually takes place during Holy Week, typically on Holy Thursday, the day before Good Friday where the Bishop of a diocese with priests from the various deaneries to consecrate the Sacred Chrism with which the newly baptized are anointed and those to be confirmed are signed.
Very Reverend Fr. John Newman Tetefio speaking on behalf the Archbishop, in his homily, asked the people of God to continue to encourage and pray for their priests and the leadership of the church.
To his brother priests and deacons, he pointed that it is the time to renew their commitment to the service of God and His people.
During this Mass, the bishop blessed two different oils and consecrated one: The Oil of Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick, which are used throughout the year for those being baptized and those receiving Anointing of the Sick respectively, and the Oil of the holy chrism on the other hand, is used in several sacraments, including baptism, confirmation, and holy orders.
