BISHOP ATTAKRUH CALLS ON THE YOUTH TO BE “A SIGN OF VITALITY”

Most Rev. John  Baptist Attakruh,  Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi has described the Youth as “a sign of vitality” for the Church.

Bishop Attakruh made the call when delivering the homily at the Thanksgiving Mass to climax a 3- Day Diocesan World Youth Day celebration held at the St. Kizito Pastoral and Catechetical Center at Apowa .

The Prelate said the Youth are not satisfied with the status quo. They search and are filled with ideas but the adults of today are a source of confusion.

He said,” look at the vocation of marriage,  the world is now talking about LGBTQI +. Do not look to the adult but to Jesus, for there is no confusion in Him.”

Bishop Attakruh further charged the youth to seek the values of Jesus, namely,  love, peace, faithfulness and not success. He added,” You must succeed in life but success is not fidelity. What brings happiness is fidelity to God and not success.”

He reminded the youth that Christianity is about our lasting happiness and not pleasure.  For a Christian without joy is perhaps no Christian. However, the real joy is a gift that God gives.

The celebration also witnessed the introduction of the newly elected officers to the Bishop and the entire gathering. The executives who will serve a 2-year mandate are:
Eric Adjei Boye -Chairman
Emmanuel Tweneboah- Vice Chairman
Godwin Kwame Boateng- Secretary/GHANCYC Treasurer
Joseph Knox-Mensah – Financial Secretary
Elliot Edmund Gardner- Organizer
Charlotte Antwi- Women’s Commissioner
Gracia Yankson- Assistant Women’s Commissioner
Lord Owusu Mensah- Laity Representative

The World Youth Day is an event for young people organized by the Catholic Church. It was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985. Until last year, the Parish celebration was scheduled annually for Palm Sunday but will now be celebrated on the Solemnity Christ the King.
