What will the International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest be about
For years the imminent International Eucharistic Congress has been prepared. It was scheduled for last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic. It will be held from September 5 to 12 in Budapest.
CARD. PÉTER ERDŐ
Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest
“Since the end of the 19th century, the Church has organized international congresses in honor of the Holy Eucharist. These congresses are always opportunities to demonstrate our faith in Christ the Eucharist ”.
Each day will begin with a prayer meeting. Then there will be catechesis, testimonies, Masses, seminars and concerts. And of course, also Eucharistic Adoration.
In the next Eucharistic congress, 60 experts from all continents will take part. For example, the Hungarian president, János Áder; or Cardinals Charles Bo from Myanmar, Péter Erdő from Budapest, Baltazar Porras from Venezuela and Louis Raphael Sako from Iraq.
There will also be meetings with representatives of lay movements that are impacting in various countries, such as the Shalom Community, the Cenacle Community and the Casa de Oración Community.
Among the invited experts are Mary Healy, one of the first women of the Pontifical Biblical Commission; and Sophia Kuby, founder of European Dignity Watch, an organization committed to promoting life and family.
There will be events in 20 different locations in Budapest, such as the Liszt Academy, the Erkel Theater and the St. Stephen’s Basilica. Many will be at the Hungexpo Fair and Exhibition Center.
To close the congress, on Sunday September 12, Francisco will travel to Budapest and celebrate a mass in the emblematic Heroes’ Square.
